BJP MLA Niranjan Davkhare has called for the under-construction Vadhavan Port in Palghar district of Maharashtra to be named after Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, the renowned freedom fighter and Hindutva ideologue.

Mr. Davkhare made the proposal during a district planning committee meeting presided over by Maharashtra Forest Minister and Palghar Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik. The Legislative Council member stated that his suggestion was met with a “positive response” from the authorities.

In addition to the issue of the port’s name, he brought attention to several pressing local concerns. He highlighted the non-operational status of the Manor Burn Centre, a facility intended to provide specialised care for burn victims, which remains inactive due to a shortage of medical staff.

The MLA also urged the State government to address the dilapidated condition of toilets at the Zilla Parishad Marathi School in Malayan, Dahanu. Furthermore, he raised concerns about the underutilisation of sonography machines at the sub-district hospitals in Kasa and Jawhar. The absence of trained technicians has forced patients to seek expensive private healthcare services, he noted.
