In a significant step towards empowering rural youth and enhancing employability through digital education, the Department of Professional Studies, School of Commerce, Finance, and Accountancy at CHRIST (Deemed to be University) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the NASSCOM/IT-ITeS Sector Skill Council on February 10, 2025.
The MoU formalises the launch of the Vidur Sparsh Project – Reaching the Unreached, an initiative aimed at providing critical digital skills to rural students, youth, and faculty members.
The event, at the Central Block of CHRIST, was graced by Fr. Jose CC, Vice Chancellor of CHRIST University, and Upmith Singh, Chief Operating Officer of NASSCOM SSC.
Through the Vidur Sparsh initiative, CHRIST University and NASSCOM as a pilot study, will target 500 rural unemployed youth in various emerging technologies. The CHRIST will train 1,500 of their students, who will act as a trainer and buddy for rural youth. 1: 3 will be the ratio. One rural youth will be trained and mentored by 3 Christ students. The programme will focus on providing industry-relevant skills in fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science, and Cloud Computing, using the Future Skills Prime platform. The courses on this platform are designed to equip participants with the expertise needed to thrive in today’s rapidly evolving digital economy.
In his address, Fr. Jose emphasised the University’s dedication to fostering inclusion and innovation.
Upmith Singh, in his remarks, highlighted the transformative potential of digital upskilling in rural India.
