BJP A.P. unit president Daggubati Purandeswari on Sunday (February 9) said she, along with several leaders of the party from Visakhapatnam district, brought to the notice of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw issues related to the decision of merging the Kothavalasa-Kirandul (KK) line with the newly formed Rayagada Division of East Coast Railway.
Ms. Purandeswari was responding to a question on the Left challenging the merger proposal. The line generates an annual revenue of over ₹10,500 crore for the Waltair Division, apart from playing a key role in the transportation of raw materials and finished goods to various public sector industrial establishments in Visakhapatnam.
Ms. Purandeswari said they explained the issue and also submitted a letter to the Minister, who promised to look into it.
Delhi victory
Addressing a press conference at the BJP office in Lawsons Bay Colony, Ms. Purandeswari said the BJP’s win in the Delhi elections was historic. She said the people of Delhi, who were fed up with the corruption and lack of proper governance by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, voted for the BJP for development.
Ms. Purandeswari said that in the past 10 years, the people of Delhi suffered greatly as the AAP government failed both on welfare and development fronts. Blaming COVID-19 and jail terms, the AAP government neglected Delhi.
The people believed that a “double engine” government and the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi could bring Delhi back on track. She added that each of the party cadre worked hard for the BJP’s victory, and the win should be dedicated to both the party workers and the people of Delhi.
Ms. Purandeswari said people were looking towards the BJP for development in any State. In the past five years, the YSRCP neglected Andhra Pradesh, and the people, who suffered during the YSRCP regime, gave a tremendous majority to the NDA, she said.
Over the past seven months, Andhra Pradesh received investments worth over ₹3 lakh crore. The NDA government was also committed to its promises on Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, Visakhapatnam Railway Zone, Polavaram Project and Amaravati Capital city, she said.
Congress former leader Vasupalli Santosh was among those who joined the BJP in the presence of Ms. Purandeswari, who urged the newly admitted members to take the activities of the party and development being undertaken by the NDA government to the people.
