Kerala HC restraint on arresting P.C. George

The Kerala High Court on Friday directed the police not to arrest Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader P.C. George till February 17 in a hate speech case registered against him.

Justice P.V. Kunhikrishnan passed the order when an anticipatory bail petition filed by Mr. George came up for hearing.

While posting the petition to February 17 for getting the response of the police, the court observed that he was a public figure and everyone listened to him. He must be cautious while using words.

The Kottayam Sessions Court had earlier dismissed his anticipatory bail petition. During the hearing, P. Vijaya Bhanu, senior counsel appearing for Mr. George, submitted that the comment was a slip of the tongue. He made the remarks in the heat of the moment during a channel discussion. In fact, he had apologised for the comments through his social media account.
