Karur court convicts two persons, including a former Tangedco employee, on bribery charge

N.S. Jayaprakash, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Karur, on Thursday convicted two persons, including a former employee of the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) for accepting bribe to recommend a proposal on revoking the suspension of a former employee.

According to the prosecution, K. Dakshinamurthy, former Administrative Supervisor of the office of the Superintending Engineer, Karur, and N. Saravanan, 62, former Accounts Supervisor, were trapped by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) officials when they received ₹5,000 from R. Saravanan of Agraharam Street, Vellianai, former Line Inspector in Nachalur, on December 15, 2011 for recommending to the Superintending Engineer to revoke his suspension.

S. Narasimman, 74, of Car Street in Karur, a private individual, was cited as an accused in the case. The chargesheet was filed in December 2011 in the case. The trial was held in Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.

Mr. Jayaprakash, who held the accused guilty, sentenced N. Saravanan to one year simple imprisonment and Narasimman to six months imprisonment under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

Charges against Dakshinamurthy abated as he died during the trial.
