Kanniyakumari Collector R. Alagumeena inspected the taluk hospital and an Anganwadi at Bhoothapandi on Tuesday.

Ms. Alagumeena, who inspected Government Taluk Hospital, Bhoothapandi, said the number of deliveries in the hospital, vaccination of babies, post-delivery care etc., were reviewed during the inspection. After interacting with the mothers in the wards to ascertain the quality of treatment and the food being served to them in the hospital, the doctors in the obstetrics and gynaecology ward were told to pay more attention to the underweight babies.

“This hospital’s prenatal ward is to be air-conditioned while ensuring hot water supply to the patients round-the-clock. Curtains will be provided around each bed so that the mothers will enjoy the much-needed privacy and can feed their babies without any hesitation. All these efforts will attract more number of pregnant mothers to the Boothapandi Government Taluk Hospital,” hoped Ms. Alagumeena, who requested the mothers to feed their babies only mother’s milk up to six months and asked them to approach the hospital immediately if their babies fell sick.

She also instructed the hospital authorities to send the ambulance not only for taking accident victims but also rushing the newborn babies to the hospital in case of any emergency. While the bedspreads in the hospital should be changed every day, the housekeeping personnel should keep the floor and the walls clean and tidy.

The laboratory technicians were advised to follow-up the tuberculosis patients through the doctors to find if the patients are under continuous medication as prescribed by the doctors.

In the anganwadi at Boothapandi, the Collector checked the records, the quality of food and snacks being prepared there for the children and vaccination details updated in the Poshan Tracker app.
