AIADMK cadres staged a protest over the sexual assault of a school girl by three school teachers here in Krishnagiri on Saturday.
Leading the protests that were called by the party’s general secretary and Opposition leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami earlier, Mr. Munusamy alleged a lack of intervention for the affected child and slammed the poor law and order situation in the State under Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
“While the Chief Minister and the School Education Minister have proclaimed the various punishments for those that commit such crimes like stripping them of their education certificates, they have not uttered a single word about preventing such crimes,” Mr. Munusamy said.
According to Mr. Munusamy, it was an AIADMK party advocate who filed a petition that resulted in a compensation of ₹25 lakh to the sexual assault survivor in Anna University.
The Government did not come forward to support the survivor incident, he said.
Citing out incidents of sexual crimes in schools, Mr. Munusamy underlined the need for counselling of teachers and those associated with schools. According to him, in four years of DMK rule, the state of women’s safety had deteriorated. “If a woman ADGP alleges a threat to her life, it speaks of the State’s plight under DMK rule,” Mr. Munusamy alleged.
A government that gives a compensation of ₹10 lakh to a family bereaved by spurious liquor however, provides a compensation of ₹1 lakh to a child subjected to sexual assault. Such is the plight of the State, alleged Mr. Munusamy.
The party has demanded compensation and continued protection for the survivor to enable her to continue her education. He also requested that the government take up all the education expenses.
