Walk-in interviews will be held through the Medical Services Recruitment Board (MRB) to fill 658 vacant posts of specialists in Tamil Nadu, Health Minister Ma. Subramanian said on Friday.
Giving the specialist-wise vacancy position in government hospitals in the State, he said 207 posts of obstetrician-gynaecologists, 16 cardiothoracic surgeons, 16 neurosurgeons, 50 in forensic medicine, 13 in geriatric medicine, 71 anaesthetists, 121 each in general medicine and general surgery departments, 42 radiologists and one orthopaedician were vacant in the State.
“MRB is taking measures to conduct walk-in interviews to fill these vacant posts. A government order for this would be issued in two days. The 658 vacancies will be filled in a month by following rules including reservation. Already, such walk-in interviews were conducted by the Health department in 2014 and 2020,” he told reporters. during the sidelines of the Paediatric Cancer Registry and Data Meeting.
The Minister said the results of the MRB examination held for recruiting 2,553 doctors would be published during the first week of February. Nearly 24,000 doctors had appeared for the examination.
“After the results are published, certificate verification will be conducted from February 12 to 14 after which counselling will be held. The Chief Minister will hand over the appointment orders to them by the end of the month,” he said. With this, all vacant posts would be filled by the end of February.
Transfer counselling for 1,021 doctors, who were recruited through MRB last year and posted to 20 districts that had a high number of vacancies, will be held during the first week of February. The Minister added that during their posting, the doctors were told not to seek transfers then.
