A 74-year-old distressed man was saved by the prompt response of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ajit Kumar Singla, on the Beach Road on Wednesday evening.
According to police sources, the IGP, who was in the vicinity, saw A. Chandrakumar, of Chengalpattu district, venturing into the deep sea. He immediately intervened and safely brought the man to the shore. The man was administered first-aid and shifted to the Puducherry Government Hospital for further medical evaluation.
Police said the local authorities were coordinating with the Social Welfare Department to ensure the man received care and counselling.
