Human rights activists offer condolences to murdered activist’s family

A group of activists belonging to various organisations and owing allegiance to Human Rights Defenders Alert – India met the family members of murdered activist Jagaber Ali at Vengalur village near Thirumayam in the district on Sunday and offered their condolences to them. 

The group comprising 60 members came in the morning and paid their tributes to Jagaber Ali by holding candles. People’s Watch executive director Henri Tiphagne was part of the group. 

Jagaber Ali, who had complained about large-scale illegal stone quarrying in Thirumayam area, was run over by a tipper lorry on the Vengalur-K. Pallivasal road. Five persons have been arrested in connection with the case which is being probed by the Crime Branch CID.
