Hindu Munnani State president arrested in Tiruppur while attempting to proceed to Tirupparankundram with volunteers

The State president of Hindu Munnani, Kadeswara Subramaniam, and about 300 volunteers of the outfit were arrested by the police in Tiruppur city on Tuesday after he attempted to travel to Tirupparankundram temple in Madurai district, to take part in the protest by Hindu organisations against animal sacrifices at an Islamic Dargah on the hill.

The Hindu Munnani volunteers blocked the Dharapuram road demanding release of Mr. Subramaniam and other functionaries of the outfit.

Police presence at Perichipalayam, where the Hindu Munnani leader’s office is located, was stepped up right from the morning hours to thwart his travel to Tirupparankundram.

Over 200 police personnel led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajarajan stepped in and stopped Mr. Subramaniam and other volunteers from proceeding further when they emerged out of the office.

A commotion erupted after a Hindu Munnani volunteer attempted self-immolation demanding release of Mr. Subramaniam.

The police prevented the volunteer from setting himself afire and whisked him away.

Later in the day, Mr. Subramanian and all the other volunteers were released hours after a court directive to that effect.

The police cited delay in communication of the court order for the late release.

“All Hindus will inflict a crushing defeat on the ‘atheist’ DMK regime in the 2026 Assembly election,” Mr.Subramaniam told mediapersons after his release.
