High Court grants bail to phone-tapping case accused

After rejecting the bail petitions several times, the Telangana High Court granted bail to former Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bhujanga Rao and former Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Radhakishan Rao, who were accused in the infamous phone-tapping case. While granting bail, the court directed them to surrender their passports to the trial court and also furnish two sureties of ₹1 lakh each. Further, they were asked to cooperate with the ongoing investigation. Earlier, another accused in the case ASP M. Tirupatanna was granted bail by the Supreme Court. He was released on Tuesday after spending more than 10 months in Chanchalguda jail. His bail was rejected by the High Court earlier. The prime accused in the case Prabhakar Rao has ‘fled’ to the United States, a few days after the police discovered the phone-tapping issue after the Congress government was formed in Telangana. Another accused Shravan Rao, CEO of a media organisation is also absconding.
