Hebbal police arrest six for honey-trapping bike-taxi rider with fake marriage alliance

The Hebbal police on Saturday arrested six persons, including four women and two autorickshaw drivers, for allegedly honey-trapping a bike-taxi rider by luring him with a marriage alliance and extorting ₹50,000 from him on January 20.

Based on the complaint, the police tracked down the accused, identified as Geetha, Manjula, Vijayalakshmi, Leelavathy, home makers, and their associates Harish and Venkatesh through the money trail.

According to the police, Manjula, posing as an alliance broker, approached the victim, looking for a prospective bride. The accused lured the victim with a potential alliance and took him to a house in Hebbal for a meeting.

Manjula took the commission and left the place, leaving the victim with Vijayalakshmi .

While the duo was chatting, Harish and Venkateshbarged into the house posing as policemen and threatened the duo to book under a false case of prostitution.

The accused later forced the victim to transfer ₹50,000 to drop the charges and fled the scene.

Suspecting something fishy, the victim later lodged a complaint.

Based on the complaint, the police tracked down the accused and arrested them. The accused have been booked under extortion and blackmail and remanded to judicial custody.
