HC directive to resume inpatient treatment at Community Health Centre at Poothotta

A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court has directed the State government and the Ernakulam District Collector to ensure that inpatient treatment is resumed at the Community Health Centre at Poothotta in four months.

The directive came on a writ petition filed by three residents of Manakkunnam. The court observed that the inpatient treatment at the health centre had been discontinued since March 10, 2020. It was unacceptable that even after the construction of the new building, the inpatient facility was not being provided because the ramp and lift were yet to be built. “No other reason was shown to us. When a new building is constructed to function as a hospital, it is illegal not to provide a ramp or lift,” it said.
