Hackathon of Cyber Crime Wing of T.N. police begins

A two-day hackathon, organised by the Cyber Crime Wing of Tamil Nadu Police, began on Tuesday at the Police Headquarters.

The hackathon aims at encouraging students and firms use their logical and coding skills in solving the policing problems. The event has enumerated five problem statements for the participating teams to arrive at a solution – Intelligent Surveillance System for Dark Web; Deanonymizing Tor Mail (for investigation); VoIP Call Interception and Analysis; Social Media Targeted Advertisement Identification and Analysis for Cyber Scams.

It received 315 abstracts from various colleges and of them, 54 were screened in the first round by the jury members from IIT-Madras and ELCOT based on criteria such as suitability of the proposed solution, usability, technical and economic feasibility, scope of scalability and scope of deployment. The 54 teams are competing in the second round, after which 15 will be selected based on their alignment with police requirements, technical innovation, and design durability. The top three teams will receive trophies, cash, and certificates, while the remaining 12, consolation cash prizes.
