GEM Hospital has launched ‘GEM Oncoshield’, a month-long initiative in February to enhance access to expert cancer care for patients across the country.
According to a press release, the initiative will extend support to patients diagnosed with cancer and their families by offering specialised services including free second opinions and advanced surgical treatments. It features services aimed at improving early diagnosis, treatment, and long-term care for patients with cancer, especially those with abdominal and gastrointestinal cancers.
Under the initiative, all patients diagnosed with abdominal cancers will receive a free second opinion from expert organ-based cancer specialists to help them make informed decisions about their treatment options. Outstation patients can send their medical reports and get input on their cancer diagnosis and treatment options through a virtual multidisciplinary tumour board. A screening will be conducted for family members of patients diagnosed with gastrointestinal cancers. It will focus on identifying potential genetic risks and offer early intervention options for families at higher risk, the release said.
