The Special Cell of the Delhi police and a Special Task Force of the Haryana police arrested gangster Joginder Gyong from the Philippines on Saturday. The operation was conducted in close coordination with The Global Operations Centre of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which had issued a ‘Red Notice’ for Gyong.
The accused is wanted by the Haryana police in connection with murder case registered with the Panipat police station on December 30, 2017, the officer said. Apart from this, he also has 28 criminal cases against him, five of which are of murder. One of these murders include the killing of gangster Goldy Brar’s cousin, Gurlal Brar, in October 2020. The accused has also been linked to the murder of international kabaddi player Sandeep Nangal Ambian, who was shot dead in Punjab in 2022, the officer said.
He has also been allegedly involved in criminal cases in various States and Union Territory, including Delhi, for the offences of robbery, murder, attempt to murder, putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt in order to commit extortion and kidnapping for ransom.
The accused, who worked closely with the Devender Bambiha and Arsh Dalla gangs, had faked his identity and was residing in the country on a Nepali passport, an officer said. He was deported soon after his arrest, he added.
Gyong was also involved in extortion and several illegal businesses in Haryana’s Kaithal region, sources in the Haryana police said.
Gyong’s brother Surinder too was involved in the crime world and he was responsible for extorting money from doctors and excise officials. The duo, who controlled Kaithal, were involved in extortion threats and illegal businesses since mid 2000s, Haryana police sources said. Surinder was killed in a police firing.
