A gang of four involved in multiple burglaries in mobile shops in Pocharam ITC and Meerpet were arrested by the Central Crime Station (CCS), Malkajgiri and Pocharam IT Corridor police on Saturday. Property worth ₹11.75 lakh, including 60 mobile phones, and other electronics, were seized from them.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Prabhat Singh, 24, Nepal Singh, 25, Tharun Pal Singh alias Tiger, 22, and Parveen Singh, 21, all natives of Rajasthan.
While Tharun was employed at a cosmetic shop in Begum Bazaar, the other three work as auto drivers. The gang, along with two absconding associates, specifically targeted mobile phone shops due to the ease of selling stolen devices.
The arrest follows thefts in Meerpet in the early hours of February 3 and Pocharam IT Corridor the following morning.
Investigation revealed that they used a goods van, owned by the absconding accused, to move around at night, scouting potential targets before forcibly lifting shop shutters with crowbars and iron rods. They also carried chilli powder and iron rods, allegedly to fend off anyone who attempted to stop them, the police said.
During interrogation, the accused admitted to breaking into mobile phone shops within the Pocharam IT Corridor and Meerpet police station limits. Based on their confession, the police recovered stolen items from Uppal Bhagayath and also seized iron rods and chilli powder, which the gang allegedly used as weapons.
