Four student activist booked for defacing JNU wall

Four students of Delhi University were booked for “defacing” a wall on Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus, a police officer said on Friday.

The incident took place on February 4, when the students, who are also members of the Bhagat Singh Chhatra Ekta Manch, a student organisation, had gone to JNU to meet some friends, the officer added. According to the police, the students “defaced” the wall near the School of Social Sciences by writing slogans on Bastar, democratic revolution and communist icons.

The students, however, alleged that the police action was unwarranted, particularly since the campus is “full of graffiti and slogans by other student outfits”. They also alleged that the police beat them up inside the campus and then in the Vasant Kunj police station.
