Focus on research to be enhanced, says Minister

Minister for Higher Education R. Bindu said here on Tuesday that the government had been focussing on improving the employment credentials of students in tune with the job providing sectors while equally supporting research and academic initiatives from the undergraduate level.

The curriculum framework in connection with the launch of the four-year undergraduate programmes was formulated with the objective of making a comprehensive change in the learning content, she said in her address after inaugurating the renovated synthetic track and new computer lab at the autonomous Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam. She said that the focus on research activities will be strengthened on campuses.

The Minister said the government had allocated around ₹30 crore for expansion works at Maharaja’s College. The auditorium and other facilities were set up using ₹15.4 crore sanctioned in the first phase, she added. The synthetic track at the college was renovated utilising ₹6.5 crore grant under the government’s Plan fund.
