Five from Annur arrested for robbing migrant workers at knife point

The Coimbatore District (Rural) Police on Monday arrested five youths from Annur on charges of robbing four migrant labourers of their cash and mobile phones.

R. Kamalesh, N. Logesh, R. Boopathi, T. Vijay and Santhosh Kumar, all aged 22 and hailing from Annur, were arrested based on a complaint lodged by V. Subash, 39, a native of Uttar Pradesh.

According to Annur police, Mr. Subash, working at an industrial unit in Masandipalayam for the past seven years, resides at Balaji Nagar in Kempanaickenpalayam with his wife and four children. Around 1 pm. on Sunday, He was on his way home after work with three other migrant labourers when the five accused intercepted them at knife point. “The accused made Mr. Subash transfer ₹25,000 to them via UPI payment. They also took away their mobile phones before escaping,” said Annur inspector K. Selvan.

The police managed to trace the accused with the UPI transactions and arrested them on Monday. After recovering the cash and the mobile phones, the youths were produced before a court and sent to judicial remand.
