The Union Budget for 2025-26 has disappointed farmers across the country, who continue to face numerous challenges. Rashtriya Kisan Mahasangh, the national-level farmers’ union, said in a statement that the Budget favours big lobbies and has political ends in mind. The farmers’ group alleged that the Budget has an anti-farmer approach.
The farmers’ group led by Chairman Binoy Thomas and South India Convenor V. C. Sebastian reviewed the Budget that was presented by the Union Finance Minister on February 1.
The group claimed that the Union Budget is biased against South Indian States. While the government has extended financial protection to employees earning up to ₹12.75 lakh annually, no such support exists for farmers, who typically earn only ₹1 lakh a year, they alleged.
Many of the schemes announced in the Budget were declared earlier too, but they failed to benefit farmers. Additionally, no floor price has been set for crops, and there is no mention of farm loan waivers, the group alleged.
