Erode (East) bypoll 2025 | Candidates urged to follow norms during 48-hour silence period before polling

The district Election Officer and Collector Raja Gopal Sunkara has instructed candidates and political parties to strictly adhere to regulations during the 48-hour silence period before polling for the byelection to the Erode (East) Assembly constituency on February 5.

A press release said campaigning will end at 6 p.m. on Monday and the polling will take place between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Wednesday. He emphasised that conducting public meetings, taking out processions, holding media briefings, and sending bulk SMS messages to voters are strictly prohibited. Additionally, outsiders must leave the constituency by Monday evening, and all permissions granted for vehicle campaigning will end at 6 p.m. on Monday.

The release added that election booths can be set up at a minimum distance of 200 meters from polling stations, subject to obtaining the necessary permissions. However, booths must not be established near educational institutions, hospitals, or places of worship. These booths should only be used for distributing unofficial identity slips, which must not contain symbols, names, or other details of political parties.
