Election officials have so far seized ₹52.78 lakh in unaccounted cash and materials, of which ₹26.52 lakh was released after valid documents were produced as of Friday.
Since the model code of conduct for the byelection to Erode (East) Assembly constituency came into force from January 7, vehicle checks were conducted across the constituency. Seizure includes 84.28 litre of liquor worth ₹52,123, ganja and tablets worth ₹19,175 and sarees and garments, all worth ₹1 lakh. A total of 44 model code of violation cases were registered by police so far.
District Election Officer and Collector Raja Gopal Sunkara has advised people to carry valid documents if they transport cash exceeding ₹50,000.
