Ernakulam Regional Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union (ERCMPU) of Milma has raised the additional incentive on milk procured from dairy farmers to ₹15 per litre for the period from February 1 to March 31, 2025.
Dairy farmers affiliated with milk cooperative societies under the ERCMPU have been getting ₹10 as an additional incentive since August 11, 2024, according to a communication from the union here. The increase had been approved by the ERCMPU director board, its chairman C.N. Vathsalan Pillai said.
Dairy farmers and milk cooperative societies of Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kottayam, and Idukki districts will benefit from the increase in incentives. Out of ₹15, ₹8 will go to farmers and ₹7 to the societies. From the society’s component, ₹1 will be converted into its share in the Regional Union.
The incentive is expected to entail a commitment of ₹24 crore from the working profit of ERCMPU. “The ERCMPU is committed to giving the best possible price to the dairy farmers under it. This is the best incentive price in the country’s dairy cooperative sector,” Mr. Vathsalan said.
Besides taking forward the ongoing diversification projects, ERCMPU also has plans to implement new developmental and welfare schemes, he said.
”The work of the Milma Refresh vegetarian restaurant in Thrissur is progressing well. It will be the second one in the chain. The outlet near the Milma Training Centre in Thrissur is expected to be completed by March end. Milma’s bakery unit in Chalakudy is doing well and similar units will be opened in Muvattupuzha and Marangattupally soon,” Mr. Vathsalan said.
