The 27th meeting of the Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (DRUCC) of the Salem Division was held on Thursday.
Pankaj Kumar Sinha, Divisional Railway Manager of Salem Division, and Chairman of the DRUCC, presided over the meeting. M. Boopathiraja, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager and secretary of DRUCC, welcomed the members. Of the 21 members, 16 participated in the meeting.
Mr. Boopathiraja gave a presentation on the performance highlights and achievements of the division. He also provided details regarding the various ongoing development works and infrastructure upgradation projects.
He said that the division is performing well in all aspects. New train services have been introduced. The service route of some trains has been extended and additional stoppage has been provided for some trains. Special trains are being operated to meet the extra rush of passengers.
The UTS on mobile app, a passenger-friendly tool, has become very popular and the number of passengers using it is on the rise. Digital transactions at booking/reservation counters have also been enabled.
The division is also attentive to the requirements of passengers. Foot overbridges, lifts, escalators, toilet facilities, differently-abled friendly initiatives, etc., have been provided in many stations. Retiring rooms are available at major stations. Even small stations have been provided with minimum essential amenities, he added.
The DRM said that the Salem Division is doing well in meeting the requirements of passengers. He assured the members that the officials of the division would look into the demands and suggestions and concerns placed by the members. The DRM added that many works pertaining to the strengthening of infrastructure are being executed. He laid special emphasis on proliferating the usage of UTS on mobile apps and automatic ticket vending machines.
