Deworm tablets distributed to students in the Salem district

On the National Deworming Day, deworming tablets were distributed to children in Salem district on Monday.

The tablets are distributed through special camps twice a year on behalf of the Health and Family Welfare Department. On Monday, special camps were conducted and deworming tablets distributed to the children and women.

Salem District Collector R. Brindha Devi said that these deworming tablets are distributed to children aged 1 to 19 and for women aged 20 to 30 years, except pregnant and lactating mothers, free of cost. The deworming tablets (albendazole) are distributed to the children through 2,696 Anganwadi centres, 2,339 government, government-aided schools, and private schools. Similarly, the tablets are provided in 114 higher education institutions and 35 children’s homes.

In Salem district, a total of 13.42 lakh people get deworming tablets, including 11.47 lakh children aged between 1 and 19 years and 2.24 lakh women aged between 20 and 30. The deworming will prevent anaemia and increase the immune power in the body. Through this, children and women can function without tiredness and would strengthen the body and mind. Staff belonging to health, school education, and the Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) engaged in the distribution of these tablets. The children and women who did not receive the tablets during Monday’s camp will be covered in the special camps on February 17, the collector added.
