Damaged slide slices girl’s toe

A damaged steel slide in VOC Stadium in Palayamkottai severed the toe of a girl on Wednesday night.

As the play equipment in the VOC Stadium in Palayamkottai is a major attraction for children in the evenings, Andiappan of Kokkirakulam near the District Collectorate took his seven-year-old daughter to the play arena. Even as she was sliding down on the steel slide, her left small toe got trapped in the hole in the damaged play equipment and was chopped off.

Even though the profusely bleeding girl was immediately rushed to the hospital with the severed toe, the doctors there reportedly told Mr. Andiappan that the badly damaged toe could not be surgically rejoined.

The incident triggered panic among the parents who would bring their kids to the stadium in large number in the evenings, particularly during the weekends.

Mayor G. Ramakrishnan said the damaged play equipment in all parks being maintained by the Corporation would be attended to immediately to create a safe environment.
