Cyber slavery: CB-CID arrests illegal recruiting agents in T.N.

The Crime Branch-CID of the Tamil Nadu police have arrested five illegal recruiting agents on charges of luring youth into lucrative job offers abroad and cheating them.

As part of investigation in ongoing cases of cyber slavery, the agency arrested Rajesh alias Rajadurai of Virudhunagar, Pio Leo Raj, and Mohamed Sheik Meeran, of Chennai, Gowtham of Sivagangai, and Damotharan of Tiruppur.

They had allegedly sent jobseekers to countries including Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos where they were trapped in scam compounds and forced to do cyberfrauds by cheating people across the world. They were subjected to cruelty and physical abuse if they refused to cooperate, a press release said.

The accused persons were booked under various provisions of BNS and Emigration Act, 1983. The CB-CID is the nodal agency for handling cyber slavery in Tamil Nadu. The agency has so far registered 24 cases.
