Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) will set up a new facility centre for fish product entrepreneurs with financial assistance from NABARD.
The proposed centre of excellence for food innovations and Startup Hub will come up at the School of Industrial Fisheries on the Lakeside campus. NABARD will provide ₹25 lakh, while the university will contribute ₹2.7 lakh to launch the facility, according to a release.
Ginson Joseph, faculty member at the School of Industrial Fisheries and Director of the Centre, said the primary goal of the facility was to organise skill development training programmes to help fishermen, fish farmers, women’s groups, unemployed educated youth, marginalised communities, and students become self-reliant entrepreneurs, it said.
