CPI(M) condemns denial of approval for AIIMS for Kerala

The Kozhikode district committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has condemned the denial of approval for an All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for Kerala in the Union Budget presented on Saturday (February 1).

M. Mehboob, CPI(M) Kozhikode district secretary, said in a statement on Sunday (February 2) that the State government had acquired land at Kinalur and informed the Centre about it. It had been a long-pending demand to have a research and treatment facility such as AIIMS in Kozhikode in view of the recurring instances of outbreaks of infectious diseases, he said. The Centre also did not consider the ₹24,000 crore financial package submitted by the State government. There was no allocation for the rehabilitation of the Wayanad landslide victims either, he added.
