A video clip of a life convict in Coimbatore Central Prison expressing apprehensions to his lawyer that he would be murdered in the jail by warders went viral on social media.
Vikram (29) of Thattaparai in Thoothukudi district was serving his term for murdering two persons in Perurarni Village during 2016.
Vikram could be seen saying in the video that a co-inmate, Jesudass (33), was murdered and he was the next target, and went on to name four prison warders as the cause in case anything untoward happened to him.
The provision of video-call provided to prisoners allowed them to utilise 120 minutes per month in 10 calls. Vikram had made the call without the knowledge of the warders, prison sources said, refuting the charge that Vikram’s life was in danger. The prison authorities have decided to lodge a complaint with the police, it is learnt. Last week, Jesudass of Tirunelveli, convicted in a murder case in Tiruppur in 2012, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in a toilet inside the prison. This led to suspension of four jail staff.
