Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) president Anbumani Ramadoss on Sunday said the committee constituted by the Tamil Nadu government recently to study the old, contributory, and unified pension scheme was only an eyewash.

Mr Anbumani, who was in Dharmapuri to participate in multiple events, told media, that in the past eight years, three committees were formed to study the implementation of the Old Pension Scheme for government employees. Now, the DMK government had formed a committee and given it nine months time to submit its report. Seven State governments have implemented the old pension scheme. The DMK promised to implement the old pension scheme immediately after coming to power. “But, the DMK and the Chief Minister grabbed their (government employees) votes and betrayed them,” he alleged.

Alleging that in the last two or three weeks, crimes against women had increased in Tamil Nadu, especially against the school students, Mr. Anbumani said it was unacceptable that teachers were involved in sexual assault cases. Stict laws and punishments were required to deal with the accused. He felt the main reason for these crimes were consumption of drugs and liquor.

Welcoming the Telangana government decision to conduct a caste census, Mr. Anbumani said Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who speaks about social justice, is doing injustice to the people by not conducting the caste census.

Explaining the schemes to be implemented in Dharmapuri district, Mr. Anbumani said that the two rivers flowing in Dharmapuri district had witnessed floods many times during the past 78 years. The past AIADMK and also the present DMK governments were not willing to implement the Cauvery Surplus Water Scheme.

More importance needs to be given to address global warming and climate change. The DMK government did not acquire lands for the Morappur-Dharmapuri railway project while the Union Government was promptly allocating funds for this project, Mr. Anbumani added.
