The Mahila Court in Coimbatore on Thursday sentenced a man to undergo five years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for abetting the suicide of his wife in 2016.
Judge R. Nandhini Devi awarded the punishment to Anandakumar, 44, a resident of Ganapathipudur in Coimbatore.
As per the prosecution case, Anandakumar, a welder, was addicted to alcohol and often fought with his wife Suji Lakshmi, 26, for money to buy liquor. He used to torture his wife whenever she refused or was unable to give cash.
