The Jagruta Nagarikaru Karnataka Vedike on Sunday condemned and rejected the Draft Regulations (2025) proposed by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
“Many states in the country unanimously rejected the NEP, as it was detrimental to the fundamental values of unity and democracy embedded in our constitution. Our state also rejected the NEP and formed a State Education Policy Commission to draft a state-specific education policy,” the members said.
“Now, based on this unconstitutional, undemocratic, and anti-people policy, the UGC has proposed its draft regulations (2025) for discussion. These draft regulations, based on a policy that the people of the country have already rejected, represent a major political maneuver to reintroduce the rejected National Policy through the back door, targeting state governments,” they added.
They also said that even though education is on the Concurrent List, these amendments seek to strip states of their rights, diminishing the autonomy of universities and thus, they reject it.
“We strongly urge that at the meeting of the Education Ministers of Southern India to be held in Bangalore on 5th February 2025, a unanimous resolution be passed to categorically reject these draft regulations,” they said.
