CII conference on holistic health underlines need to promote workplace wellness

The 9th edition of the Confederation of Indian Industry’s conference on holistic health was held in Puducherry on Tuesday.

Speaking on this year’s topic ‘Redefining workspace wellness,’ Director of Health and Family Welfare V. Ravichandran said both government and private sector should concentrate on providing good physical environment for employees. Employers should try their best to provide adequate office space, proper seating facilities and hygienic surroundings for the workers. The employers should also promote healthy food habits among the employees, he said.

Director in-charge of Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute C. Udayashankar said employees should be encouraged to be physically active. Government and private managements should introduce concepts such as providing incentives to employees who concentrate on physical fitness, he added. 

Chairman of CII Puducherry chapter V. Shanmugham stressed on the need to bring globally available best healthcare practices to Puducherry. Dr. Arjun Sundaram, Executive Director and CEO, New Medical Centre spoke about key workplace wellness challenges and underlined the need for promoting workplace sports initiatives to improve employee health and productivity.
