The 19-year-old girl who was allegedly assaulted by her boyfriend and had since been put on ventilator support died at a private hospital in Kochi, Kerala, on Friday (January 31, 2025).
She was found in a critical condition at her house in Chottanikkara panchayat on Sunday evening. Incidentally, the victim was a survivor in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act a couple of years ago.
The police had since arrested one Anoop, 25, from his house at Thalayolaparambu in the early hours of Wednesday. The accused, who had been charged with attempt to murder and rape, was remanded in 14 days’ judicial custody by the Judicial First Class Magistrate court, Chottanikkara, on Thursday after the police interrogated him and took him to the victim’s house for evidence collection.
The police will now effect changes in the FIR and invoke murder charges.
He was found to be an accused in two criminal cases at Thalayolaparambu and a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at Peerumedu.
The body will be handed over to the family after an autopsy.
