BRS leaders meet Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, seek new draft UGC regulations

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao met Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on Thursday, accompanied by party leaders and public representatives.

They submitted an appeal to Mr. Pradhan urging the Central government to see that the University Grants Commission (UGC) prepares new draft regulations that respect State autonomy and the rights of educational institutions. Speaking to the media, KTR expressed concerns about the proposed amendments to UGC regulations, stating that they undermine State rights and violate democratic principles. He criticised the plan to give State Governors full authority to appoint Vice-Chancellors, citing interference with State jurisdiction and infringement upon the autonomy of State-run universities.

The BRS party also raised concerns about the ‘No Suitable Candidate Found’ clause in the recruitment process, warning that it could be exploited to bypass reservation policies for SC, ST, and BC communities. KTR emphasised that such practices would violate constitutional rights and undermine social justice.

 Meet Gadkari

Later, KTR and other party leaders met Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, appealing for the extension of National Highway 365B and the construction of a road-cum-rail bridge over the Mid Manair Dam (MMD). KTR stressed the importance of these infrastructure projects for regional connectivity and economic development. Additionally, he mentioned that the party would pursue the legal case against MLAs who defected to other parties.
