Bids likely to be invited next month to construct jewellery park in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE The State government is expected to invite bids in February to construct an integrated facility for the jewellery sector at Kurichi in Coimbatore.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced during his last visit to Coimbatore that a seven-storeyed industrial complex will be constructed at Kurichi at ₹126.12 crores for the goldsmiths.

District Collector Kranthi Kumar Pati said jewellery-related industrial associations such as the Coimbatore Goldsmiths Council and Coimbatore Artisans Gold Jewellery Manufacturers Association sought an integrated workspace structured as a workshop for establishment of NABL accredited labs in Coimbatore, creation of an export zone near the Coimbatore International Airport, and development of a jewellery park and raw material bank on totally 1.5 lakh sq.ft and reactivation of the defunct Goldsmith Welfare Board.

Official sources in Coimbatore said the Tamil Nadu government decided to construct “plug and play flatted factory building” for gold jewellery units and for all type of manufacturing units on 3.41 acres at the Kurichi Industrial Estate. It will house a new building spread across 7.23 lakh sq.ft.

The plan is to initially construct stilt + two floors with “plug and play flatted factory building” with two entrance points – one for all MSME units and another for the gold jewellery sector.

The Tamil Nadu Infrastructure Development Board will prepare the Techno Economic Feasibility Report (TEFR)/ Detailed Project Report (DPR) as per the new guidelines of the MSE-CDP scheme of the Central government, they added.
