A three-member Syndicate subcommittee has been constituted to perform the duties of the Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University (BDU) as V-C M. Selvam completed his tenure earlier this week.
Mr. Selvam was appointed as Vice-Chancellor on February 5, 2021, and continued in office for three years. On February 4, 2024, his service period was extended by one year, through an order by Governor R.N. Ravi, who is the Chancellor.
Mr. Selvam demitted office on February 5.
The Syndicate subcommittee will perform the duties of the Vice-Chancellor until an appointment is made to the post.
The Commissioner of Collegiate Education E. Sundaravalli will be the convener of the subcommittee. Syndicate members R. Sakthi Krishnan and V. Rajesh Kannan are the other two members of the committee. “The committee will be looking after the routine functioning of the university until a new Vice-Chancellor is appointed,” a senior university official told The Hindu.
Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Government Collegiate Teachers’ Association (TNGCTA) has appealed to the Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department, and the Commissioner of Collegiate Education, to expand the subcommittee by including a Syndicate member representing government colleges.
