In a decisive move to recover long-pending property tax dues, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has announced the auction of 608 properties under its jurisdiction. The auction will be held on February 13.
Despite issuing demand notices, property attachment orders, and sealing non-residential properties, many property owners have failed to pay taxes. As a result, the civic body has initiated an auction process under Section 156(5) of the BBMP Act, 2020, to recover the dues, said Munish Moudgil, BBMP Special Commissioner (Revenue).
Proceeds from the auction will first cover outstanding tax arrears. Any surplus amount will be transferred to the property owners, said Mr. Moudgil.
In the East Zone, 118 properties from sub-divisions such as J.C. Nagar, Maruthi Seva Nagar, HBR Layout, and Shivajinagar will be auctioned. In the West Zone, 120 properties in areas such as Chickpet, Malleswaram, and Rajajinagar will go under the hammer. In the South Zone 109 properties, including those in BTM Layout, Jayanagar, and Basavanagudi, are set to be auctioned.
In Mahadevapura Zone, 60 properties in localities such as K.R. Puram, Marathahalli, and Whitefield will be auctioned, In Bommanahalli Zone, 70 properties in areas such as Begur and HSR Layout; in Yelahanka Zone, 40 properties, including those in Yelahanka Satellite Town; in R.R. Nagar Zone, 50 properties, including those in Kengeri and Yeshwantpur, and in Dasarahalli Zone, 41 properties in localities such as Peenya and Shettihalli will be auctioned on February 13.
