Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) authorities on Saturday cleared 2.25 guntas of illegally occupied land near the main entrance of Nayandahalli lake.
The land, located near Mysuru Road within the Govindarajanagar Assembly constituency, had been illegally occupied by a timber shop operating from a makeshift shed, according to the authorities.
Following directives from BBMP Special Commissioner (Lakes) Preeti Gehlot and Chief Engineer Vijay Kumar Haridas, civic officials visited the site and instructed the immediate removal of the encroachment. A land survey had been conducted, marking the boundaries of the occupied area.
Upon receiving notice, the timber shop owner voluntarily vacated the space after removing timber materials and dismantling the shed. Officials said the land would be fenced to prevent further encroachments. In a statement, the civic body said, “The BBMP continues its efforts to reclaim and protect Bengaluru’s waterbodies from illegal occupations.”
