A special investigation team led by Thrikkakara Assistant Commissioner of Police P.V. Baby probing the alleged ragging-induced suicide by a 15-year-old boy in Thripunithura has recorded the statements of his fellow students whose social media posts in the wake of the boy’s death had emerged recently.
The investigation team will record the statements of the school authorities shortly. Though the Hill Palace police had registered a case for unnatural death following the alleged suicide on January 15, the special investigation team is focusing on the new details that have emerged, including social media posts and an Instagram forum, which had since been deleted, since the victim’s family petitioned the Chief Minister and the State Police Chief.
The Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights had also registered a suo motu case over the alleged suicide. The school concerned released a statement on Friday (January 31) absolving itself of any wrongdoing.
Meanwhile, the Student’s Federation of India staged a protest march to the school on Saturday (February 1) alleging apathy on the part of the school management in dealing with the alleged ragging of the victim. They demanded stern action against all, including students and those who did a cover-up act, who emerged guilty as per the investigation.
The boy’s mother had written to the school principal about the alleged brutal ragging of her son, along with the evidence that the family had gathered. The family had moved out of their apartment in Thripunithura following the death of their son.
