AIADMK urges Puducherry government to file review petition against SC verdict on PG medical admission

The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has urged the Puducherry government to file a review petition against the Supreme Court ruling that residence-based reservation in postgraduate medical courses was unconstitutional.

In a memorandum to Chief Minister N. Rangasamy at the Legislative Assembly, AIADMK secretary A. Anbalagan on Wednesday said implementation of the court’s directive would impact students of Puducherry from joining PG courses in medical colleges in the Union Territory.

The Chief Minister should approach the Supreme Court seeking a review of its order on PG medical admission. There are four medical colleges, including the one under the government sector, offering 370 PG seats. Of the total number, 50% of seats have been reserved for students from Puducherry. Following the Supreme Court order, the Union Territory stands to lose 135 PG seats in medical colleges in Puducherry, he said.
