The Kancheepuram District Committee of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has urged the State government to step in and amicably settle the labour issue in the Samsung Electronics plant in Sriperumbudur. In a statement on Sunday, it asked the government and the Labour Department to ensure the Samsung gave up its “vindictive attitude” towards the employees who were part of the labour union.
“Even during a meeting held by the Labour Department on February 5, Samsung officials had openly threatened that they will continue to take action against errant workers. This is despite the undertaking given not to take any action against the employees,” alleged Samsung India Workers Union president E. Muthukumar.
According to him, in support of Samsung workers, employees at all industrial units in Kancheepuram district had decided to forego meals on February 13.
