The death toll in the bus accident at Chengapalli in Uthukuli limits on Thursday went up to three on Friday, after a college student Gururaj (18) was declared brain dead at a private hospital in Coimbatore.
Periyasamy (19) and Harikrishnan (19) had died on the spot when the private bus proceeding to Erode from Tiruppur overturned while attempting to overtake a lorry. Over 20 injured passengers were admitted to Government Medical College Hospital in Perundurai.
The Uthukuli police had registered a case against driver Marasamy (42) and conductor Duraisamy (40) for speeding, endangering lives of others, and causing death.
