A special court here sentenced a 30-year-old man to five years of rigorous imprisonment for causing the death of a 51-year-old man by ramming a minivan while driving drunk on Rajiv Gandhi Salai.
The police said that on December 31, 2018, V. Irudayanathan, 48, of Pallavaram was travelling in his minivan with V. Baskar, 51, and Mohan on Rajiv Gandhi Salai. A rashly driven car rammed the minivan, causing it to overturn. Baskar was killed on the spot in the accident.
The Traffic Investigation Police, Adyar, registered a case. After investigating, the police arrested the car’s driver Srikanth Pari, a software engineer from Taramani, on charges including rash driving and culpable homicide not amounting to murder. He was driving the car under the influence of alcohol, the police said. At the conclusion of trial, I Additional Sessions Court delivered the judgment, holding him guilty and sentencing him besides imposing a fine of ₹15,000 on him.
