Villagers on Friday staged a road roko demanding a service road for their locality.
More than 200 residents of Manivulundhan, Sarvai, Sarvai Pudur, Vadakumarai, and Punalvasal Sathapadi gathered at Manivilundhan and staged a roadblock on Salem-Chennai national highway, demanding a service road at the Manivulundhan bus stop as buses do not pick up passengers due to the absence of a service road.
On information, Attur police came to the spot and talked with the villagers. At that time, police forcibly removed the people from the road and it created a verbal duel between the villagers and police.
The police took 10 people to the police station, talked with the villagers and assured them they would take up their demands with the officials concerned. Based on that, they withdrew their roadblock.
Due to the protest, traffic was affected on the national highway for around one hour.
