1,164 harvesting machines available in Tiruvarur district

A total of 1,164 paddy harvesting machines were available in Tiruvarur district for the farmers to take them on rent to complete the harvesting of the standing paddy crop.

Disclosing this in a press release, Collector V.Mohanachandran said that while 13 (10 belt-type and 3 tyre-type) harvesting machines were available with Agriculture Engineering Department, 1,151 (866 belt-type and 285 tyre-type) machines were available with the private harvesting service providers.

In addition to the existing harvesting machines, some more machines were being brought in for harvesting by private harvesting service providers and the number of such machines was expected to touch 500 or more in next few days. As on February 6, standing paddy crop in 53,075 hectares have been harvested against the total cultivated area of 1,43,935 hectares (samba in 1,04,539 hectares and thaladi in 39,396 hectares).

Meanwhile, rent for machines owned by private harvesting service providers have been fixed as ₹2,500 an hour for belt-type harvesting machines and ₹1,850 an hour for tyre-type machine. The Agriculture Engineering Department and the societies, and the farmer producer organisations and individuals owning the harvester machines purchased with government subsidy have been directed to charge ₹1,880 and ₹1,160 respectively while letting out their machines to the farmers.
