Bull tamers in action at the jallikattu held at Madhakottai near Thanjavur on Saturday.

The jallikattu held at Madhakottai on the outskirts of Thanjavur town on Saturday passed off without major incidents though 35 persons sustained injuries during the event.
According to official sources, the event commenced around 7.15 a.m. and culminated by 4.15 p.m. with a total of 557 bulls out of 699 registered to take part in event were released through the vadivasal.
Out of the 358 tamers who have registered their names for the event, 318 turned up at the spot. Among them 11 were not allowed to take part in the event in view of their health conditions while 40 persons failed to turn up for taking part in the event.
Bulls from Thanajvur, Pudukottai, Tiruchi, Madurai, Ariyalur, Perambalur and other districts were brought to Madhakottai for taking part in the event.
While none of the bulls was reported injured in the event, bull owners, tamers and visitors 11 each and police and volunteer one each sustained injuries during the event, sources added.
Thiruvaiyaru MLA Durai. Chandrasekaran and Thanjavur MLA, T.K.G.Neelamegam and others witnessed the event.
